Scythe – Another Kickstarter hit by Stonemaier Games

scytheStonemaier Games is running another kickstarter campaign and it is another home run. The campaign for their newest board game Scythe, a 4x game (explore, expand, exploit, exterminate) set in an alternate-history, 1920s Eastern Europe, is at $1,220,658 and there are still 9 days to go.

Why is it so successful? Well, the art by Jakub Rozalski is absolutely amazing, I’m sure people would pay for the art even if it came without the game. The components look awesome and the box comes with 25 miniatures. All this for a mere $59 with low shipping costs.

The game itself is about 5 factions competing over an unclaimed patch of land surrounding the mysterious Factory. Think of it as a mix bewtween a war game and a eurogame. Losers of a conflict are not removed but have to retreat. In practice, the threat of conflict is much more important than the actual conflict. So if you are a eurogamer who likes just a bit more confrontation/interaction than in most eurogames (like myself) this game might be right up your alley.
